Martin Hunt

Joe’s Bakery is probably the oldest working bakery in Bristol and has been owned and managed by local couple Martin and Jane Hunt since 1990. Martin came into the bakery trade by buying a very traditional Victorian craft bakery in Brislington, Bristol, in 1986 and whilst there learnt his trade by working alongside two of the best Craft bakers in Bristol using only traditional methods and equipment.
On moving to Joe’s Bakery he continued with his bakery education with formal bakery training at Bristol Bakery School and study tours to France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and the USA, along with very many study-visits to fellow Craft Bakers throughout England. He established a range of breads based on both traditional and more modern methods of bread production (and ingredients) and this continues to this day giving Martin a rare insight into, and hands-on experience of, the full range of our daily bread.
In addition Martin now runs these popular bread baking classes for home bakers, advises professional bakers on re-introducing Artisan Techniques into their Craft Bakeries and for two years has lectured the Bakery Apprentices at City of Bristol College.
In 2012 Joe’s Bakery won the inaugural Guide2Bristol Local Food Producers (bakery) Award.
